- Write down what someone owes you, like their half of the rent, or what you owe them. Each roommate gets one running balance.
- Split a grocery receipt by item: tag each line to the roommate who shares it, and their share lands on their balance.
- Upload your Venmo file and Zedi matches each payment to the person who sent it. A payback clears their oldest share first.
- Paid back in cash? Record it by hand, and it settles what was owed.
- Tag a bank row to a roommate and pick whether they owe it back, you owe it, or it settles a balance.
- Your roommates don’t need an account. It is your record, so they don’t see it.

Before you sign up.
Do my roommates need to sign up?+
No. People in Zedi are entries in your own account. They don’t log in or see your balance, so you share the number with them yourself. If everyone needs to add costs, a shared group app fits better.
How do I split rent that I paid?+
On each roommate’s page, write down what they owe you for it. When they pay you back on Venmo and you upload the Venmo file, the payment settles their oldest open share first.
What does it cost?+
Keeping balances and splitting receipts is free. Receipt scans are 10 a month on our key, or unlimited on Pro ($5 a month) or with your own Anthropic key.
